FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you make the treats yourself?

I don't manufacture the treats myself. I carefully select and source all products from trusted suppliers, focusing on quality, ingredients, and what works best for dogs focusing on those with sensitive stomachs.

Where are your treats made?

Our range includes UK-made, EU-sourced, and imported treats supplied via trusted UK suppliers. Some pick & mix treats are manufactured outside the UK (including China), and we always clearly label where products are made so you can choose what's right for your dog.

Are your treats suitable for sensitive dogs?

We offer a range specifically suited for dogs with dietary sensitivities, including treats with minimal ingredients and no unnecessary additives where possible. You can shop these in our "Sensitive Dogs" section.

Do any of your treats contain glycerine?

Some softer or wrapped treats may contain vegetable glycerine to help maintain texture and palatability. All ingredients are clearly listed on each product so you can make an informed choice.

How does pick & mix work?

You can choose your dog's favourite treats individually or build your own mix. It's designed to give variety and make treat shopping more fun just like a sweet shop for dogs.

Can I build my own treat box?

Yes — you can create your own treat box by choosing from our range, or select one of our pre-made options if you prefer something quick and easy.

What is The Dog Corner Treat Club Box?

Our subscription box is a monthly treat drop for your dog. It's designed to be flexible and fun, with options suitable for different dogs, including those with sensitivities. Each month contains different treats for variety.

How do I know which treats are right for my dog?

We've made it easy to shop by need, with categories such as chicken free, grain free, and long lasting. Each product also clearly lists ingredients and sourcing information to help you choose confidently.

Are your treats natural?

We aim to offer treats with simple, natural ingredients wherever possible. However, our range also includes some processed or wrapped treats as part of our pick & mix selection. Everything is clearly labelled so you can decide what's best for your dog.

How should I store the treats?

Store treats in a cool, dry place and follow any specific guidance on the product packaging. Always supervise your dog when feeding treats. We say to use loose natural treats within 3 months.

What is Nutritional Analysis / Analytical Constituents?

Analytical Constituents (sometimes called Nutritional Analysis) are the percentages shown on pet food and treat packaging. These typically include:

  • Protein
  • Fat
  • Fibre
  • Ash
  • Moisture

These values are shown as "As Fed" values, also known as "As Is Matter". This means the percentages include the moisture content of the product. For example, wet foods naturally contain much more water than dried treats or kibble, which can make nutritional percentages appear lower on the label.

What does "As Fed" or "As Is Matter" mean?

"As Fed" simply means the nutritional percentages are shown exactly as the product is sold, including moisture content.

Example:
A wet food may show:
• Fat: 4%
• Moisture: 78%

At first glance this may appear very low fat, however moisture dilutes the percentages shown on the packaging. This is why some owners choose to compare foods using Dry Matter Basis (DMB).

What is Dry Matter Basis (DMB)?

Dry Matter Basis removes moisture from the calculation so products can be compared more accurately.

This can be useful when comparing:

  • Wet food vs dry food
  • Natural treats vs kibble
  • Products for dogs requiring controlled fat intake

By removing water from the calculation, you can better understand the true nutritional composition of a product.

How do you calculate Dry Matter Basis?

Step 1: Subtract moisture from 100.
Example: 100 − 78 (moisture) = 22 dry matter

Step 2: Divide the nutrient percentage by the dry matter number.
Example: 4 ÷ 22 = 0.1818

Step 3: Multiply by 100.
0.1818 × 100 = 18.2%

This means a wet food showing 4% fat with 78% moisture would equal approximately 18.2% fat on a dry matter basis.

Why do we share Dry Matter Basis information?

At The Dog Corner, we believe pet nutrition should be transparent and easy to understand. Dry Matter Basis can help pet owners compare products more fairly and better understand nutritional information across different food types.

Every dog is individual and nutritional requirements may vary depending on age, lifestyle and medical conditions. Always speak to your veterinarian regarding specific dietary needs.
