I'm Emily and I own The Dog Corner.
If you asked me a year ago if I would be here doing this, running my own business I would have laughed.
My story is not your typical business story. I was actually doing an Adult Nursing Apprenticeship however in April 2024 I had a horrific hand injury. A completely normal day turned into one I will never forget. After emergency surgery and months of rehab I was told I needed to step down from my course. This broke me! I had spent the last 3 years working towards my goal of being a nurse, I had put in literal blood, swear and tears and it was ripped away by a freak accident.
Not only had I now lost my career, I also lost my loan horse who I had to give up after the accident. I lost friends and my sense of purpose. The one person who got me through it all was my dog Nala! Without her I don't want to imagine where I would be.
Come January and it was my last day at work. No one really remembered, it's like I was already forgotten as I had been on reduced duties for the past 2/3 months. Suddenly an incredible opportunity came available and a brand was selling up to go and travel and I knew this was my time! I invested and brought the business. It was all very slow and I just didn't feel like I could just take over a business. Imposter syndrome is real! So I decided to change it I rebranded and I'm making it my own!
My goal is to make shopping an enjoyable experience even for those with dogs who have complex dietary needs. Nala is on a low fat diet due to pancreatitis and I found it so hard to find suitable treats for her that wete actually low in fat.
I could have given up when my life fell apart and I'm not going to lie I was very close to but we turned this bad situation into a dream! I spread the saying that everything happens for a reason even if you can't see that reason in your darkest hours!
This is more than just a brand, this is a community!
